Seiko Men's SKX781 "Orange Monster" Automatic Dive Watch
Positive Review:
This watch is an excellent "gateway" watch into the world of horology! Out of the dozen or so watches I own, I have a tendency to wear this one the most. The lume is outrageous and with only a cloudy day's light, the lume will last all night. It's a subtle and soft glow at 0400 in the morning, but definitely legible in complete darkness.
The movement used in this watch is not a chronometer, but definitely a staple in the world of Seiko's movements. I personally am seeing +14 seconds per day and it was this way out of the box. I will have it regulated whenever it needs service and I will probably change out the crystal. The crystal is the proprietary Hardlex crystal used exclusively by Seiko. I'm happy with the scratch resistance but I believe Hardlex is more shatter resistant vs. Sapphire's scratch resistance. Also, the bracelet is great! Great weight, solid end links, diver's extension, safety deployment clasp with 2 button release.
Honestly the only downfall (to me) is the pin setup. It uses the pin and collar design. There are 2 collars on each side of the pin (within each link that you can adjust). There is 1 collar that is not anchored and you have to hold the loose pin inside the bracelet then use a little bigger pin to wedge the collar back into or over/hugging the pin. If you bring it to Wal-Mart or somewhere that isn't authorized to work on timepieces you could very well have a broken bracelet or worse! It could fall off your wrist! O_o
Excellent Seiko! Modern classic.
It looks very sleek, and more interesting than other watches but not as crazy as the "fashionable" watches that just look like thick bracelets.
The illumination is also very bright and lasts for a long time.
Highly recommend if you have a watch lover on your gift list.
